Paquito D'Rivera Young Artists Concert
Zankel Hall
José Valente was born in Porto, Portugal. After finishing his degree in Austria, he received a Scholarship from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music to study jazz viola in New York. Among others, he studied with: Brian Finlayson, Mathias Buchholz, Christian Howes, and Mark Feldman. For the ORF radio show Kaertner Talente, he recorded live the premieres of Rudolf Kaettnig’s String Quartet and Gian Carlo Menotti’s operas The Medium and The Telephone. He played live at the RTL’s televised broadcast of the ski jumping world championship in Planiza, Slovenia; at the Olympia Park and the Prinzregententheater in Munich; and at the ZDF television show Wetten das. He was a founding member of Acies String Quartet; Trítono; José ’n’ Friends; and Electro-Acoustic Super Band, with whom he released the CD Other Languages, presenting it in a tour in Portugal.
